13th Lagos Book & Art Festival

The 13th Lagos Book and Art festival  was a carnival of arts and culture as Writers, Poets, Dramatists and art lovers converged at the Freedom Park, Lagos Island for the 13th Lagos Book and Art Festival.

The 3 days  event which took place from November 18th - 20th, is the brain child of CORA-Committee for relevant art-aimed at translating the teeming population of Nigeria into a fine human resource through arts, literature and culture.

There were reading workshops for teenagers and children, art and craft exhibitions and panel discussions on books such as 'Tipping Point' by Malcolm Gladwell and 'The World is Flat' by Thomas Friedman.

Organizers of the Hay Festival, the biggest literary and culture event in the world were present at the event. The high point of the event was the celebration of the landmark birthdays of members of the art & culture community.

Some of those celebrated are Joke Silva(50), Yeni Kuti(50), Taiwo-Ajai Lycette(70), Richard Mofe Damijo(50), Chukwuemeka Ike(80) and Charles Oputa aka Charly Boy(60)

Tango With Me International Distribution

Joseph Bajamin, Gevenive Nnaji and producer/director Mahmood Ali-Balogun

"Tango with Me" becomes the first Nollywood film to Secure International distribution.

Talking Drum Entertinment a UK based distibution company specialising in black films have set an August 2012 release date for the award winning romantic drama ‘Tango with Me’.

The film will open across all the major UK and Ireland cinema chains in the first phase before proceeding on to other European Countries. 

Tango with Me which was the highest grossing film in Nigeria in 2011, stars Genevieve Nnaji and Joseph Benjamin as a couple facing a complex concoction of moral issues as they battle with trials and tribulations within their young marriage.

Mahmood Ali-Balogun produced and directed the film under his Brickwall Communications production company, in a statement he said:

 “This is a positive development for African film in general and Nollywood in particular because a wider audience will experience our films and returns on film investments will improve greatly for the benefit of all stakeholders in our bid to take the industry to greater heights”.

2011 Lagos Photo Festival

The Lagos photo festival would serve as an avenue for society to see the history of the city in pictures spanning through diffrent time frames, thus enabling people appreciate it better. The festival would also focus on social issues bothering the continent and would feature photographers such as Kelechi Amadi-Obi, Akintunde Akinyele, John Densny, Peter DiCampo, Judith Quax, George Osodi and Andrea Stultiens.

There would be performances from general pype, Shank, Benny P and jazz music would be played to serenade the soul.
